| Importance Crime rates are an indicator of the safety of a community and its quality of life. Many crimes go unreported and many are not resolved with an arrest. The youth crime rate is associated with poor community relationships, parental neglect, family dysfunction, and criminality in the family, substance abuse by youth, and family poverty. |
