Preliminary analysis of changes in population, age and race/ethnicity in Greater New Haven and Valley Region, 2000 to 2010.

Some of the highlights include:

  • Overall population in the Greater New Haven and Valley region is about 613,000 (an increase of only about 24,000 since 2000)
  • The Hispanic/Latino population doubled in the New Haven "inner ring" suburbs and the Valley, but half the region’s Hispanic/Latino population is in New Haven.
  • There was not significant growth of African American population (about 6000 overall), with about 2/3 of the region’s African American population in New Haven.
  • Population under age 18 declined slightly.
