[Excerpt] About 15 members of the Board of Alders stuck around after Monday night’s meeting to hear the results of a city health data report, a presentation that featured a ward-by-ward breakdown of the biggest health risks facing residents.
In response to the key findings and recommendations from the most recent Community Report Card for Western Connecticut (CRC), the CRC SteeringCommittee convened two Community Health Conversations with key community stakeholders in October 2012. During the Conversations, the need for collective commitment and responsibility in the prioritization of health issues and development of an action plan for health improvement were emphasized. Johnson Memorial Hospital's Community Health Needs Assessment addressed a number of areas of interest, including obesity, diabetes, behavioral health, and alcohol/substance abuse. The report identified problems, Johnson Memorial Hospital's strategies to fix the problems, and specific programs in place.
This Community Health Needs Assessment was carried out in 2013 to identify current and future healthcare needs in the community and to improve and strengthen programs and services provided to address them. They surveyed residents in the service area and local community agencies, and compiled this report which addresses areas of interest, including cancer, diabetes, and prenatal care.
