  • Yale study: Surprising factors play role in wellness

    [Excerpt from The Hour, article by Amanda Cuda, Wednesday, May 23] It’s common knowledge that where people lives affects their health. The idea that economic status, education level and access to health care all factor into people’s well-being is now accepted as more or less fact by most. But a new study led by researchers from Yale University shows that other aspects of where people live could have a bearing on their health — things that might not have been previously associated with wellness, such as racial diversity.

  • Pick up the phone, DataHaven well-being survey is underway

    [Excerpt from New Haven Register, May 15, 2018 in Section A by Clare Dignan] NEW HAVEN—People should be prepared to pick up their phones, because DataHaven wants to know how happy they are and whether their government is responsive. The local nonprofit’s Community Wellbeing Survey is underway collecting data from neighborhoods about their health, happiness, employment and more. More 15,000 randomly-selected adults in every town in Connecticut will participate in live, in-depth interviews to paint a detailed picture of local life.

  • Cities across U.S. using New Haven-made app to reach residents

    [Excerpt from 4/16/18 Connecticut Post article by Dan Haar] When I met Ben Berkowitz in a New Haven cafe to talk about the SeeClickFix platform his company developed, I figured we’d walk around the neighborhood so I could see how the app worked. The app guides users to report problems such as broken curbs and illegal dumping to a city or town. The municipality, in this case New Haven, can then communicate back to users through email directed by the app. ....
