We are grateful to the New London Human Services Network and The Place for CommUNITY Wellbeing @ledgelighthd for hosting yesterday's convening on food insecurity in #Connecticut. Christian from @cwcseo brought the Commission’s research and policy recommendations to life through an informative presentation, and we were grateful as ever to our partners at @unitedwaysect for utilizing DataHaven’s latest in-depth reports on SNAP to demonstrate the impact of H.R.1 on this critical topic. Their food pantries distribute food to 27,500 people each month - a staggering figure. At a time when USDA has paused some data collection on food insecurity, DataHaven is proud to be partnering in this work at the state level. We felt the power of community collaboration alongside over two dozen organizations including @homelesshospitalitycenter, @freshnewlondon, @newlondonyouthaffairs, @jfs_greenwich, @hearing_youth_voices and more. This week’s travels also took DataHaven to Southeastern #Connecticut where we met with the leadership team at @hearing_youth_voices to learn, share, and imagine future collaborations. DataHaven’s New London Town Equity Report visualizes disparities in school suspensions, which is just one example of the overlap between local data and HYV’s “Schools That Work For Us” framework. Huge thanks to @maya.sheppard, @damoyanelson, @somegenesis, and CJ for your vision, expertise, and immense investment in youth empowerment in #NewLondon! Later that day in New London, DataHaven also attended the @ctvoices “Roadmap to Fully Funded Communities” presentation. We heard from @chc1ct (shout out to Yvette!) as well as @safefuturesct, @trfp24, and the Health Improvement Collaborative about the impact of H.R.1 on the ground in Southeastern Connecticut and engaged in a community-led conversation about fiscal guardrails and statewide policy. DataHaven Staff Spotlight: As we reflect on last month, we'd like to give a special shout-out to Carter, who has been busy spreading the word about DataHaven's work at the national, statewide, and local levels. Carter was featured in the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership’s (NNIP) @urbaninstitute Idea Showcase where they presented on data dissemination methods. The next day, they gave a talk at @sacredheartuniversity discussing the collection and impact of community data. Most recently, Carter presented on measuring no-fault evictions during the @pschousing Connecticut Affordable Housing Conference, alongside colleagues Andrew Carr of DataHaven and Darren Pruslow of @ctveteranslegal.
